paracinema9

It’s that time again!! The latest issue of the great “Paracinema” has hit stands and, as usual, The Para crew has gone above and beyond filling its pages with amazing design and, as always, thought provoking and intelligent essays about the world of Cult Cinema. For issue 9, however, I think that they have outdone themselves with Christine Larsen’s beautiful representation of HR Gieger’s “Alien” on the front cover. After the jump, you can check out my pics for this issue’s best. But don’t even worry about that, if you haven’t already picked up this fine periodical, what the hell are you waiting for??? Go to www.paracinema.net and get your mind around it!!

This issues highlights –

Treat The Children Well (OR GET THE HELL OUT OF THEIR WAY) – Emily Intravia does it again with a comparison of two of the greatest “killer kid” movies ever made “Who Can Kill A Child” and “The Children”. With insightful commentary on the motifs of both films, a thoroughly witty and thought provoking piece.

The Death And Life Of Cinema – An Interview With Joe Dante – interviewer Brian Saur gets some great mileage out of this interview with the great cult director. Interesting questions regarding the state of 3D in cinema, classic films becoming forgotten, remakes, the death of Film Noir, and Blu-ray release strategies make this smarter then the average interview.

How Hannibal Lecter Helped Me Through A Difficult Time In My Life – One of the things that I love the most about “Paracinema” is the personal touch of each writers take on a film they love. I also adore that they shine the light on films that may have been looked down upon on initial release.  Jessie Robie’s analysis of Ridley Scott’s “Silence Of The Lambs” sequel has both.

These three and others including other great essays on the blunder of marketing “Alien” toys to children, a great article of Australian involvement in the birth of Hollywood, and more make this one of the best of the bunch!! Go out and get yours NOW!!
